Bedshaped

Another busy week in the books here. Lots of pool time, friend time, school and play.

I was gone part of the week but life rolled on with swimming lesson for Lily and the arrival of Jack's big boy bed and new furniture. The new bed arrived on Thursday and Jack has been getting up in the morning (really, really early) and wandering up to our room for a visit. It is amazing how with it he is at 5 in the morning. The first three days he stayed in bed with us but this morning he was re-directed to his bed and slept for another 2 hours - thank goodness! Lily seems to like Jack's new furniture as well and she has been "reading" him books at night.

Over the weekend we had another session of tee ball and Lily is working hard to get the hang of things. She has a good time and her brother is itching to play. Grandma Gail joined us this weekend and took in the sights and sounds while watching Jack run around the sidelines. At one point while playing catch with Gail, Jack threw the ball and it happened to hit a baby who was moving by in a stroller. The baby started crying and then Jack started crying - all very traumatic. I know that he did not do it on purpose but the baby was the little sister of the girl that drilled Lily in the mouth last week!

We finished Saturday of with dinner with Grandpa Maurice and Grandma Phyllis in order to celebrate Grandpa's birthday which is coming up tomorrow. Happy Birthday!

On Sunday we visited Daisy's boot camp for a follow up training session. We finished up the weekend with a visit from our friends Chris, Kristen, Wyatt and Owen.

In other news, Jack's vocabulary continues to expand and the context that he is using his words can be quite hilarious. Now when we are the mall or at the grocery store and he is bored, he will look up at you and say, very seriously, "I'll be right back". He has also started this new thing that when he does something wrong he will just say "It was an accident." Tonight, while on the phone Marcy saw Jack climbing up onto the dining room table. When she told him to stop he said, "I was just trying to be funny."

Lily seems to enjoy having her little brother at school with her and she uses every opportunity to rat him out when he does something wrong! I think that they will enjoy the summer but then look forward to being at their own schools come August.

Anyway, on to the pictures.

Put Me In Coach

It has been so busy around here, I almost forgot it was Monday!

We had a busy weekend around here with lots of pool time and time with friends. On Friday, Lily and Jack visited the zoo with friends Jake and Sowmya. After a quick nap, they were off to the pool where they hung out and waited for the first No Cook Friday of the season. Lily and Jack had a chance to play with friends Madeleine, Claire, Charlotte and James at the pool.

After a quick night's sleep we were off to a busy Saturday. We started off with a race for Marcy that featured a pre-race kids' race. Lily and Jack both had a great time running and cheering Marcy on. Then we came home for a few minutes before we were off to Lil's first tee ball game. Jack had a great time playing on the field while his big sister played with her "purple" team. Lily had a good time playing although she took a ball in the mouth early on but soldiered on after a bit of a break. Grandpa Maurice came out for the first game and cheered Lily on and helped to entertain Jack.

After tee ball, Lily was off to her classmate Pierce's birthday party for some superhero and moon bounce fun. After the party, Lily and Jack had an afternoon/early evening play date with schoolmate and friend Bea and her little sister Charlotte.

Sunday was Father's Day and the kids helped make breakfast for me. After some mid-day errand running we were back to the pool for some afternoon heat relief. Needless to say, everyone slept well last night.

Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard

Jack had a great final week with Beatrice - they hit the fountain, library, and park. We said goodbye to Beatrice on Thursday afternoon, Jack did not really understand that it was a final goodbye and he still talks about her as if she is coming back soon, I suspect we might get some inquiries in the next few weeks.

On Friday, we went to the pool - Lily is swimming like a fish, doing very well working on freestyle and she is now regularly wearing her googles. She starts lessons a week from today and is very excited. Jack is fearless in the water, jumping from the side, and asking that I not catch him (in 3 feet of water).

On Saturday, Lily started t-ball, she had a lot of fun practicing catching and hitting the ball off the tee. This week she will be assigned to a team, and they will practice for the first half and then play a game the remaining half - she is very excited. While Lily was practicing, Jack was keeping himself entertained hitting the ball with his superman bat, he could do that for hours, he LOVES baseball. Later in the afternoon, we met up with Hayley, Cole, Ms. Michelle, and Mr. John at a local festival where we jammed to some music and had dinner - Jack and Hayley were completely wild dancers, with Lily joining in here and there - we suspect it might be a second kid thing.

On Sunday, we had a follow-up lesson for Daisy in West Virginia, so Jack and Lily got to see some baby bunnies, chickens, horses, dogs, and baby goats. We returned home, and Grandpa Maurice came over and took the kids to the park, and then we all met for dinner.

Today was Jack's first day of school, both Lily and Jack were very excited while Mom was a little teary eyed. He was great when Stuart dropped them off, and was "mowing" the lawn when he left. Apparently, he cried a few times during the day, one time when he lost track of Lily on the playground but overall had a good day. He apparently ate a little bit for lunch telling me that the "ham was yucky" and while he laid quietly on his cot, he did not nap. He was happily drawing a picture when I picked him up, and while he was happy to see me, he was not desperate to leave. Overall, it was a successful day, and he is looking forward to tomorrow. Apparently, during story time one of his teacher's Ms. Lopa was reading a story about being special, and she asked Jack about being special and he said "I'm special because I'm a Magic Bear." - that is the name of his classroom. Lily was definitely super big sister today, she ate breakfast with him when he was nervous and watched out for all day at school, and even told him that he could not throw sand, we are happy she will be around for the next two months to show him the ropes and alert us to any misbehaving. ;)

Enjoy the few pictures we have, we will do better next week! In the interim, we changed up the background for your viewing pleasure.

My Old School

Busy, busy weekend around here.

We started off the weekend with a field trip to pick up Daisy from doggy boot camp. Lily spent the day at school and Jack had a day with Beatrice. We picked Daisy up and she is like a new dog! She has mellowed out quite a bit and has learned lots of new commands.

Friday night was Lily's graduation and end of the year celebration @ school. (She started post grad work today.) It is hard to believe that her time in pre-school is coming to an end! She has been at the same school for three years now and she has grown up so much during that time. Both kids will be at the school together starting on Monday but it will be much different come the fall! With Jack starting school on Monday, it means that this will be our last week with Beatrice. She has been a wonderful caretaker for Jack and he will surely miss her as he moves on to school.

The graduation ceremony was followed by an end of the year party with a moon bounce and petting zoo. The kids had a great time, bounced a lot, petted some animals and got to use a bunch of hand sanitizer.

On Saturday we visited with friends Chris, Kristen, Wyatt and Owen. We took in a Milkshake concert and minor league baseball game.

Lily started off Sunday with breakfast with Grandpa Maurice. Then we were off to the pool and after being forced to leave to some inclement weather, Lily and I heeded off to see the new Shrek movie. She had a great time and enjoyed her first 3D movie.
