Thursday was the only work/school/nanny day (well at least for Mom, Lily & Jack, sorry Dad)....
On Friday, we went swimming and Lily became very brave and was swimming under the waterfall and getting herself around pretty well, swimming lessons start in 2 weeks so we anticipate that she will be a little fish by the end of the summer. Lily and Jack were a little under the weather over the weekend and Jack got in a lot of nap time, morning and afternoon, he seemed to have the hardest time adjusting back to eastern time. On Sunday, Lily and Mom went to get manicures and pedicures - Lily's first time at the salon. She chose pink for her fingernails and purple for her toenails, and has little white and yellow flowers on a few of the nails, very cute! While we had some girl time, Jack joined Dad and friend Jeff for some lunch.
On Monday, we had Lily's parent-teacher conference - she is thriving at her school and apparently whenever she plays kitchen she pretends Jack is there and lately has been including Jack in her stories. Also, as we already knew, she loves to sing, making up her own songs; however, any future American Idol success may be marred by the fact that most of her songs are not really in tune, she most definitely inherited that trait from her father. ;) Just a sample of her evaluation:
* Lily is a kind child who shows concern for her fellow children. She is also very helpful, and likes to discuss what roles the children will play * Lily is very verbal. She expresses herself well. She likes to read and enjoys practicing her writing skills. * Lily is progressing well with her letters and numbers. She enjoys cutting different shapes in envelopes to take home. In art she cuts pieces of paper to make interesting patterns on her projects. (Mom can attest that she does in fact bring home every single piece of little paper that she cuts up. ;)) * Lily is very social and plays a great deal in dramatic play.
We informed her teachers that she will not be going to kindergarten in the fall as she misses the cutoff by 10 days and we would prefer not to push her, so next year she will be the oldest in her class. Apparently, in the fall the school has a special program involving reading and math for kids who have Sept- Dec birthdays which she will definitely benefit from. As she is leaving for kindergaten in 2010, Jack will be starting at the school. Jack continues to thrive himself, and he is developing quite the personality - he loves to dance, loves to carry around the remote, loves to draw (i.e. scribble on paper, loves to climb half the stairs and then look at us helplessly, loves to try to open every single cabinet, loves to throw balls and stuffed animals, loves the ball pit, and loves to run the opposite way of his parents. He has begun trying to express himself a little more, motioning for certain things like his milk and walking up to his highchair pointing when he wants to eat and he does say 'Hi' and 'Bye.' He also likes to say 'woof woof' whenever he sees a dog or a picture of a dog. He is definitely saying Mama and is working on Dada and I think he is saying Lily, but only understandable to Mom at this point.
Anyways, that is the latest on the children. Stuart and I are headed to Guatemala for a wedding on Wednesday, so Lily and Jack will be spending some quality time with Grandma Gail and Grandpa Tom. We return on Monday and will try to post that night...
