Sideways

The final week of summer is in the books.  Lily and Jack finished a busy week of playing and pool time.

After the beach, the rest of the week went by quickly.  On Friday, Lily went to visit her new school and met her new teacher.  She is very excited about this school year and her new school.  On Friday night we went down for dinner and a visit to the Lincoln Memorial and the World War II Memorial.

On Saturday, we did some stuff around the house and had some of our new neighbors over for a bar-b-que.  Sophia and Luke who live two doors down match Lily and Jack in age.  Lily and Sophia are in the same class and so far they are getting along as fast friends.

On Sunday, we headed up to Baltimore to go to the Orioles game.  Unfortunately, just as it was about to start the skies opened up and the rain came down.  Madeline and her dad who had come along endured an hour and half delay with us and then we all headed home.  On the bright side, the game was cancelled so we can turn our tickets in for another day.

Today was the first day of second grade and so far so good.  Lily had a great day (even though she missed the bus home) and we are off to great start this year.  Jack starts his new school (where his camp was) next Tuesday.

Here are the pictures from the week.

Oceans & Streams

Summer is winding down...although the activities continue...

Lily and Jack spent last week at the lake with Grandma Gail and Grandpa Tom.  They tore up the lake on the hot dog, matrix, sea doo, and Lily skied.  At one point, they both flew off the Matrix in the middle of the lake and fortunately were laughing hysterically rather than scared.  They also visited Goat Island, painted seashells and fed the fish.  They returned to NOVA on Wednesday and capped out the week with a first time trip to Chuck-E-Cheese which they loved.

On Thursday, Lily and Jack returned home to the finished backyard (leveled, sod, plants) and their swing set put together with a new rock climbing wall - they were very excited!  We capped off the week with a trip to the zoo.

On Sunday, we went to Ocean City for three days.  We packed in lots of activities - lots of time at the beach and pool, two games of mini golf, and games and rides on the boardwalk.  Lily also really wanted a hair wrap and she was very excited to have one done last night on the Boardwalk.  We are home for the rest of the week until Lily's first day of school on Monday.

Enjoy the pics!

The Red Summer Sun

The summer is in the homestretch ... we are recovering from the children's absence in Montreal with another absence this week as they are at the lake with Grandma Gail and Grandpa Tom.

Last week saw Jack in his last week of camp - the theme was Arts & Crafts and Jack came home with many goodies that he made including a very nice plate with gems stuck in it.

Lily spent the week at ice skating camp with some tennis and arts and crafts thrown in.  Unfortunately, she was a bit under the weather at the end of the week and missed her last day of camp.  She recovered in time for the weekend trip to the lake and all reports are that they are having a grand time away.

More posting to come next week ... hopefully chock full of pictures from Grandma and Grandpa.

Homecoming

It was a quiet week in these parts but not for Lily and Jack. The kids spent the week in Montreal (and then Lake George) visiting with Great Aunt Donna, Great Uncle Stephen and Bubbie. The kids had a great time and a really fun filled trip. Since we weren’t there for the visit, we have limited details but here is the rundown of events …

Saturday – flight up. And then a visit to the toy store to get some stuff to play with all week.

Sunday – Lily had a manicure. I am not sure what Jack did.

Monday – A trip to a Star Wars exhibit at the science center and a visit to the bookstore. Also, lots of time was spent at the pool.

Tuesday – I am not sure what happened Tuesday. But there was pool time and visit to Bubbie’s but that may have been Wednesday.

Wednesday – A visit to the insectariums.

Thursday and Friday – Off to Lake George – mini golf, fireworks, swimming, and a trip to Adventure Land amusement park. A great time was had by all.

Saturday – The drive to New York City and visiting with cousins Emilie and Stephanie … and their parents.

e were happy to see Lily and Jack after a week away. They had an amazing time and had many stories to tell us about all the things they got to do. Huge thanks to Donna and Stephen for caring for them for a week – they are getting easier but can still be a lot of work! Like when Jack wakes up crazy early in the morning!

Saturday afternoon we visited the High Line and went to a park right next to the Hudson River. It was a very hot afternoon but the kids had fun and we all got a chance to see the new World Trade Center building. We capped off the day with dinner out and a stop at Magnolia Bakery for some cupcakes.

Sunday morning we had brunch with Donna and Stephen and Emilie and the kids got to play at Union Square Park. We then cabbed it over to Tompkins Square Park so we could watch Cousin Steph’s ball hockey game. Her team won 4-3 in a shoot out. It was quite exciting. After the game we headed back home on the Amtrak. The kids hit the hay after a quick dinner and were ready for camp the next morning – Jack in an Arts & Crafts themed week and Lily at ice skating camp. Only 20 days until second grade.
