In a troublesome sign of things to come, Lily, is apparently quite stubborn. Now this will likely be a problem in the future when it comes to school work, boys or just general temper tantrums (hopefully, something attention grabbing in the cereal aisle of the supermarket) but for now it presents a slightly bigger problem as her attitude is impeding her route out of her current digs. In other words, she is breech - upside down without a care in the world. The doctors say that everything else is normal and her heartbeat is great. Obviously, she is just victim of her father's poor sense of direction.
So we, and by we I mean Marcy and Lily (and me in the sense that it means that I can't pass out during the delivery), are going to do this in a way slightly different than anticipated. On Friday, September 10 at 10:30 a.m., Marcy is scheduled for a c-section. So, Lily will be arriving a week earlier than anticipated ... unless she tries to escape sooner.
Check back for updates in the next ten days and for Lily's grand appearance in technicolor - or whatever the photographic equivalent is. Think good thoughts for Marcy next Friday morning ... she is very brave in the face of her first surgery and we know all will go well but extra good thoughts never hurt.

On the wall

Earlier this summer, in anticipation of Lily's arrival, my cousin Stephanie came down for a week to paint on the walls for us. Stephanie, who just graduated from art school with a degree in illustration, painted an amazing and friendly zoo of animals for her new cousin. She did an outstanding job ... here's how it turned out:

Stephanie hard @ work.

Panda ...

elephant ...

monkey ...

frog ...

giraffe ...

and turtle.

This is a wider view of the left half of the room ...

and the right half.

Lastly, Clancy the Bear (the name he came with) sits above the closet door keeping an eye on everything.

Trial Balloon
With family and friends spread around the continent (and the world), I thought that this (a web log or blog, if you prefer) might be a good way to keep everyone up to date about our impending arrival. Marcy does not know about this plan yet and might put the kibosh on the project when I tell her about my idea of posting labor and delivery pictures on the internet ... just kidding.
In case you were unaware, we have decided to name her Lily (hence the name of the blog) and we are still mulling over middle names.
Eventually, when she (and we are hoping the doctors are right about that, otherwise he will have a lot of little dresses to wear and will have an awfully feminine name, he will likely get picked on in school and grow up to loathe his parents for raising him as a girl) stops hiding out in Marcy's tummy we will have better (color) pictures of her and maybe even video to post. For now, we have only ultrasound pictures that are about three and half months old; I have posted one of those for everyone who has not seen it. If you have seen it before, I am sorry but it is the best that we got.
So, four weeks +/- a few days and counting ... stay tuned, things will surely get more interesting if all the stuff we have been reading is true.
